2024

To be honest, as midnight struck & people said 'Happy New Year!' my mind was screaming  STOP, WAIT, REWIND PLEASE! I'm not done with 2023 - I'm not half the person I ought to be!  I'm not ready to go on. I felt left behind and weary. "The seasons march at Your command, The old departs, The new year comes." (Selah) Time zooms past or lingers painfully at the pace set by a sovereign, merciful God whose will and purposes are being fulfilled every passing minute.  The year won't slow down or expand to accommodate my agenda, but it does march steadily to the beat of its master drummer, conductor, composer.  Each year will not fail to accomplish His agenda. All the puzzle pieces, big and small, fall into place at exactly the right time. His sweet sovereignty over all things gives me grace to hope and wait with courage for the fulfillment of His promises. I can face the daunting challenges, heartbreaks, and joys of the new year with gladsome expectation. ...

Found: Philip

John's gospel contains unique material not included in the other 3 gospels.

Philip's brief story is apparently only included in John's account. (reference: https://www.gotquestions.org/Philip-in-the-Bible.html)

In John 1:43, Jesus decides to go to Galilee, finds Philip, and says, "Follow me". Short and sweet.

We are told in the next verses that Philip then finds Nathanael. He says they had found the prophesied Messiah, and responds wisely to Nathanael's skepticism with an effective "Come and see." (John 1:45-46)

Philip's actual testimony is: “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."

Philip says they found Jesus, which implies they had been searching, while John says Jesus found Philip. Both are true. But I daresay Philip would not have found anything if Jesus Himself had not been seeking His own. Praise God for His active, decisive, and effectual grace which seeks out sinners and calls them into the light.

We don't know much about Philip, but Jesus knew him and his friend Nathanael - knew them before the foundation of the world and gave them the right to become children of God.

If Jesus knows me, I lack nothing. If Jesus sees me, I have everything I could ask for. When Jesus calls me, I will come to him with all my doubts and questions. I will follow Him.

Hymn: Jesus calls us, o'er the tumult
 Jesus calls us o'er the tumult
of our life's wild, restless sea;
day by day His sweet voice soundeth,
saying, "Christian, follow me."

Jesus calls us from the worship
of the vain world's golden store,
from each idol that would keep us,
saying, "Christian, love me more."

In our joys and in our sorrows,
days of toil and hours of ease,
still He calls, in cares and pleasures,
"Christian, love me more than these."

Jesus calls us- by Thy mercies,
Savior, may we hear Thy call;
give our hearts to Thine obedience,
serve and love Thee best of all.

Jesus calls us, o'er the tumult
